Visiting with the bull

While we were home we brought the bull we share with another Galloway breeder back to Moora and put him in with the cows.

I remember as a (perhaps) 10 year old asking my dairy farming Uncle Richard how he knew when it was time for his cows to pay a visit to the bull paddock.  His answer was "they wink at me".

Beef cattle are easier - you just put the bull in and leave him there for long enough for at least a couple of cycles.

They (the cows) know when the time is right however.  Last week while fencing truffles I could see Glenblairie Victorious 1st pressing his attentions on one of the cows that (it seemed) was not quite ready.  An awful lot of energy was wasted.  Perhaps she just objected to the human audience?
