Hey - it's good to be home.
We flew back from Jakarta overnight Thursday. It's now Monday evening and it seems like we've been here a while. The farm looks good - particularly because of the 100 mm of rain about a week ago.
We got the cattle in yesterday. We weighed them, applied NLIS tags to those who didn't have them, and drenched them. The photo shows Te Papa Henny objecting to having her head held so we could put the tag in. Generally, they look to be in great condition with the cows ready to go to the bull. A January conception will give an October calving. Tomorrow we will take some young heifers and steers to a friend's farm, bring back some cows - and collect the bull from his co-owner. It will be another big day.
We have a building project going on - so quite a bit of time has been put into understanding where things are up to, taking some of the little (and big) decisions that need to be taken - and just tidying up. This is actually the 3rd time we've done a significant building project. The team we have this time feels pretty good.
I haven't been able to convince son Neil of the soothing effect of time on the big ride-on mower. Fortunately the farm manager did one mow a couple of weeks ago. Consequently only a few hours of effort with mower and brush cutter, and the place looks spick and span.
Glad to hear your back home. Have a wonderful holiday in NZ.
